ABOUT
Emilie Dashe is a French American artist born and raised in San Francisco who works with the mediums of oil painting, ceramic and stone sculpture. Her work straddles the historical and the personal by challenging conventional representations of the female form with non-traditional compositions and mark-making techniques. A central component of her work is the presence of a set of creatures called Boobelahs, a name derived from a Yiddish term of endearment. These Boobelahs counteract the ways in which female bodies continue to be restricted and commodified through politics and visual media.
